Minnows at Arts Etobicoke Gallery
I’m really happy to let you know that a second photograph of mine is going to be exhibited by Arts Etobicoke.
The opening reception is November 20, 2025, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Do come if you can.
The theme of the show is Dialogues with Nature. The prospectus says it will explore ”natural landscapes and all that nature entails, including our relationship and interaction with the natural world.”
As we know too well, many of our “interactions” have been disastrous. I’ve catalogued a few over the years, like this cement plant I discovered by accident. Because it’s uphill from Lake Ontario, I’d guess there’s always a possibility this mess could find its way into our drinking water.

But my contribution to this Arts Etobicoke show is more hopeful. It’s a large, somewhat ambiguous, image I’ve called Minnows. From a distance, you could imagine it’s a drone’s-eye view of fishes swimming around the rocks of the Thousand Islands.

But is it? (I do like photographs that challenge our expectations.)
Might it actually depict human beings in harmony with our natural world, doing no harm, using their own muscle power to propel kayaks among the islands?
You can visit the gallery at Cloverdale Common in Cloverdale Mall (250 The East Mall, Toronto, M9B 3Y8). If you’re using GPS, request “Service Ontario,” to be guided to the closest parking area.
Based on the previous reception I participated in, there should be some terrific art on display. It was great to hear the artists talk about their work and inspiration.
And for any artist, I think, hearing other peoples’ perspectives and answering their questions has to be one of the highlights of an exhibit.
The exhibit will run until December 20. Check times and location at https://www.artsetobicoke.com/gallery/.
I hope you get a chance to see it.
